Anyone using THESE 'phones in the studio?
My MDR-V600's are giving up the ghost. Sony's got MDR V-6, but they look like the old MDR-7506 which I am not fond of.

That is one seriously bizarre design. Haven't tried those. Still love the good 'ol 7506 's. |

I'm wondering if the appendages on the side are an acoustical enhancement of some sort or decorative. Perhaps they also serve the purpose of allowing one to recline sideways while keeping the narrator's head on an incline when doing a particularly brutal long form read. |

I'm so late to this one, Deirdre, but I just did research to replace my MDR-7506's and found a great response, via Sound on Sound and GearSlutz, on the Audio Technica ATH-M50. They are normally $160'ish just about everywhere, but I found them....get this.....on Amazon for $119. Ordered yesterday! _________________ Brian Haymond

While I go with the Senny HD 280s (NO BLEED EVER!!! WHAT? WHY AM I YELLING? BECAUSE I CAN'T HEAR YOU WITH THESE HEADPHONES ON!!!)
I highly recommend those new AT cans as well as the new top-end Shure ones. They have Sony-feel but with a more robust sound (not too bassy, not so tinny). _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

UPDATE: I totally hated the ATH50M headphones...very scooped out in the mids, to my ear - to the point of being unusable. I purchased Shure SRH440's and, compared to the Audio Technica's, I like these far better. _________________ Brian Haymond

Glad the Shures worked out - they definitely are one of the more robust cans in the mids. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

+1 for Shure SRH 440's. I've used mine for quite a while and they are SUPER comfy. Can wear them for six hours and barely notice them. It also helps that they sound nice. _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow
