I was getting twitchy. Pray tell (for those of us who know enough about the black arts to be dangerous) what magic did you conjure to put the world to rights? Was it the pesky .htaccess, or a version control issue?

Thanks, Bish.
Actually, it was far more prosaic than that- apparently the hosting provider had some kind of problem whereby the database behind the forum was marked read-only. They said it was going to be fixed at some point, but instead of waiting I made a new database and imported the old one to it and just updated things to use the new database.
