Hello there;
First off let me give you the lowdown on my recording space;
It's an 11 X 12 spare bedroom, which I haven't done much with acoustically; a couple of moving blankets on the walls, and some Auralex here & there..my mic is a Neumann TLM-103 that I'm recording at my desk (using an OC white stand)
Here's a sample piece of copy;

Aside from the noise floor, (or lack thereof)..is anyone hearing reflections from the desktop?..
My thought is to do a corner recording space using a couple of ATS corner bass traps as well as some wall panels on either side..
would that help? |

Hi Steve...
I'm hearing a little 'hollow-ness,' which is probably due to some reflection. Can you upload a photo showing your recording space? That would help us see where the mic is in relation to hard surfaces. Also, are you using any EQ?
However, apart from that, I'm also hearing what I think are edits in the middle of breaths. You're not editing by sight only, are you?
I also heard what sounded like a dog bark at the end of the second to last line.
You're probably aware of these things, but you don't want them to be in files you send out... even for auditions. _________________ Mike

Hey Mike..
The file was actually just a "scratch read" so you could hear the mic, ..I didn't put much effort into the editing...you confirmed my suspicions about the reflections.. the mic is only about 10 inches from the desk surface..
There's some noise concerns too,..but I kinda like to avoid going the
"booth" route: way too expensive, and I don't have the carpentry chops to build my own.. |

{sigh of relief} Oh, good. I pointed those things out because there are others who do submit work that way.
For the time being, try laying a towel down on the desk to see if that cures the issue. _________________ Mike

I had a reflection problem with my music stand that I put my iPad on to read from. Never figured I'd cure a problem like that with a ratty old bath towel, and yet... _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow
