|
|
I've searched and read the archives, and I still have a few questions about marking up a pdf copy on the Ipad...
So you know when you're in a session, and they're trying to shove :40 worth of copy into a :30... so the client has you take out words and phrases here and there, to make it fit. In the studio, that is accomplished with a pencil -- I scribble out the offending phrase, and print what they want instead between the lines, or in the margin. Then, of course, inevitably, they want to put part of the phrase BACK in, so I erase part of the scribble, cross out the lines I wrote, etc.
Ideally, I'd like a pdf annotator that I could manipulate 100% by stylus -- I could cross out text, put in breath marks and pauses, add text in the margins... THEN undo that, if I need to (that's the key, being able to undo when the client changes his mind. Over and over.)
Does this exist? If so, do you use it? And more importantly, do you like it?
Merci beaucoup. _________________ Always look on the bright side of life.

Adobe acrobat is free, and can easily add and remove annotations. I use that one currently. I used to use goodreader, but like Acrobat better. |

I'm using Goodreader right now, but have only used it to highlight F text, not for underlining, annotating, etc. Im pretty sure I read that it can do those things, but haven't actually tried them out yet. _________________ Back into the murky lurk from whence I came

Give GoodNotes a try. Its a free a that allows you to mark up a script, undo the markup with a button at the top, redo the markup (for somewhat indecisive client direction)..and on and on. The cool thing about the "Undo" function is that it doesn't just undo everything at once. It will undo one level at a time. You can also just use the eraser function. You also have a choice of different width highlighting and the size of the lines you write with your stylus.
After you install it, you can copy the script from email. A box will pop up asking you where you want to open the script. Just choose the GoodNotes option and you're set.
The free version does limit you to only two files at a time but I've never had the need to open more than one script at a time. The paid version allows more.
This is the closest a I've seen so far that works on screen just like marking up a real script. Actually better with the undo layers. |

Kristin, I know that this doesn't directly answer your question, but it's my favorite quick 'n dirty iPad tip:
A screen protector on the iPad (you *do* have one, right?) and a dry erase marker. Works wonders for indecisive clients and short scripts. _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

I use iAnnotate, and have been really pleased with it - I'm a convert only about a month ago from the paper-and-pen route with live recording.
There's a strikethrough option and a pencil option - I like the pencil option because I can really scribble out a word that way.
If (when) a client changes their mind and wants the words back, you can tap on any previous highlight, strikethrough, scribble, etc., and choose "delete." Then poof - back to normal, as though the word had stayed in the script all along. _________________ Kendra Hoffman

Further to Doug's screen protector idea, I have actually used ordinary kitchen Saran Wrap (Cling Film) on the odd occasion I've wanted to mark up a single page pdf on the iPad.

I will check out all the recommendations, thanks!
And Doug, that's an awesome tip -- but I'm pretty sure that, as soon as I had the script fully crossed out and marked up with dry erase marker, I would accidentally bump the screen and change the size, making all of my markings moot... _________________ Always look on the bright side of life.
