|
|
Purchased an SP C1 on Ebay for a good price.. the mic was listed as GREAT condition, barely used.. plugged it in, and initially all was good.. after about a week and a half didnt touch the mic,
and then noticed a very prominent crackling...
the room is not humid.. its frikkin middle of winter here... if anything the room is dry... I've switched cables, interfaces, sort of plugging it in back and forth a bunch of times to try to remove any oxidiation and while better, not quite free of crackling.. the noise floor room noise is -45db... the noise floor room noise with an MXL V88 is -58db
is this common with SP C1's? |

Wow..good thing for the PayPal (eBay) buyer protection plan. Sounds like it was not as advertised, contact the seller for a full re-fund. If the seller tells you to take a hike...eBay will back you. You will pay the return shipping. _________________ -----

The seller claims crackling SP C1's are common... they come that way out of the case.. they need to be "dried out".. YIKES |

I call bullsh*t on the seller. Contact eBay dispute resolution. They'll hold his feet to the fire. _________________ Don Brookshire

Last thing to check before trying to return it, are the mic or any of the cables to it near anything electrical that could affect the sound? I have an adjustable desk and at full height the mic and cable came close to track lights on a rheostat causing hums and crackles. Moving the lights helped.
Also since plugging and unplugging helped a bit, maybe something in the plug receptacle in the mic is loose. Of course if you don't feel like taking it apart I understand. I wouldn't.

Yup.. I can move the male xlr pins ever so slightly when I nudge them with my the tip of my finger.. the whole assembly moves back and forth.. not dramatic, but not totally secure |

Bruce .. you frikkin saved the day.... it was a pain but I took off the outer housing and got at the set screw that held the xlr pin housing in the receptable and after a lot of positioning and re positioning, re tightening the set screw, put the mic back together, plugged it in .. and neither a crackle or pop was heard..
The moral of the story, boys and girls, is that even YOU can salvage a mic and avert Ebay disaster with a basic set of mini screwdrivers and a rudimentary set of repair chops... YAY Bruce! |
