... Well, that's where you come in.
I've spent most of my budget this past year treating a good booth, building a quality / quiet PC etc, but it's time to move on to a new pre/interface.
I really do love the sound of the M , but I'd like to have a dedicated pre, and an interface to better control and integrate my monitors, etc. (Am I on point so far? Suggestions?)
I'm running a 416. From browsing, I'm automatically interested in the Golden Age Pre 73, or DBX286s to compliment it. Read great things about the Scarlett 2i2 as an interface as well (but it has pre's built in as, right? Wouldn't that be counter productive if trying to enjoy the sound of the GAP, for example?)
I don't want to spend more than 'I need to' to get an excellent sound out of the 416. <$1000 for both pre & interface combined would be preferred.
Anyway. There is my rant. Suggestions, please.
Would like a great PRE for the 416, and a way to get the audio in to the computer ... Like an errr ... Interface.
Thanks! |

I have used and really like...
konnekt 6 (firewire) controls monitors and strong headphone amp built in.
ART Studio Projects MP - preamp and converter, Sounds very smooth with a 416. Really good for the price.
Haven't tried, but gets good reviews...M-Audio C400. USB pre and monitor controller. _________________ www.asapaudio.com |

I'm running a 416 --> dbx 286a (predecessor to the 286s) --> focusrite Scarlett 8i6... I think it sounds great. I have a GAP Pre-73 sitting in a box in the closet... it didn't really add anything to the 416 when I experimented with it. _________________ Chris Rice - Noisemaker

I have done direct a/b comparisons between the M and MBox 3 mini with a number of mics, and to my ears can hear no discernable difference |
