A very cool microphone was released at the NAMM show....
http://www.aphex.com/aphex-products/microphone-x/
The complete specs are not yet listed but might be something to keep an eye on for portability. It includes the Aphex Big Bottom, Aural Exciter, optical compressor and 24bit/96hz USB connection.

Yes, saw that at NAMM Show.

We'll need to get a demo before I can give any intelligent opinion.
The compressor makes it a little more idiot proof, I suppose, but not a fan of the other processors. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

It's nice that their website promises:
Quote: | Are you tired of sending out demos for voice over and narration jobs and getting no replies? Use the processing power of the Aphex Microphone X and get noticed! |
No adjustment on the compression? Trust us, it's just right. Hmmm.

I'm curious about the self noise of the pre and converter. The Apogee MiC is not as quiet as I'd like it to be, and this might be a decent response. If it sounds good (on my voice) it could be a solution. Much smaller than a mic and interface setup. Is that a full-sized LDC capsule?
Pretty exciting that it promises to get your auditions noticed! I'd be all over a mic that increased my booking ratio! |

Clever marketing. It'll get you noticed.
Personally, I also notice things that sound like crap.

I love Aphex products. I have an Exciter and a Compellor...but I can't imagine that mic sounding good on everyone or for everything.
Might be good for podcasting, but VO? Doubt it. _________________ www.asapaudio.com |

The promise of a Big Bottom doesn't really do anything for me...

You never know..... it could be the perfect VO mic.
You talk in one end and Don LaFontaine spews forth from the other!
Then we would all sound the same.... Ok, let me rethink this. _________________ "Dialog is the painting on a canvas of silence" |

Skeptical. I could be wrong, but, I see a lot of.... plastic.
Estimated street price? $300. _________________ Don Brookshire

It is actually a high grade polymer, when helps reduce internal vibration that causes sinusoidal depleneration...something that you REALLY don't want when digitally interpreting vocally produced vibrations. |

Wouldn't it have been easier to just include a retro-encabulator in the circuit?
