Rate question that arises every now & then for a direct-booked Job I cannot convert to Union and need to concoct a buyout rate at least somewhat in line with Scale...

Work is: a set of :10-:15 In-Show Annc. elements for weekly half-hour hunting series. Program Open/Close, teases, sponsor billboards, feature intros etc.).

Usage: 6 Episodes, One Nat'l cable network (i.e. OLN, Sportsmen Channel) each airing 3 times per week and repeated once for a total of 36 airings.

Likely to be a new 'round' of these for future cycles year-round i.e., repeat scenario of the above for Q3 and Q4 airings this year.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Cheers,

Mike

Can you call SAG-AFTRA and ask them what scale would be for something like that?

Melissa, yes but it's a hypothetical which many Locals aren't eager to help estimate since i'm looking for an approximation of a non-union equivalent rate.

I am longtime SAG & AFTRA. For this job to be converted Union, the whole show and talent - both on-camera and off-camera - would need to be union as well. Also – there would need to be a signatory. Sig of the Paymaster I normally route such questions through is not signed to TV programming. (vs commercials).

Most likely only NY or LA would be able to answer that quickly with some accuracy. I'd still give it a shot to try and get a ballpark figure. I'd say look at the contracts but we all know how convoluted they are Shocked

Think I found something that could help, using the SAG-AFTRA rates.

http://www.sagaftra.org/files/sag/rate_sheet_commercials_8_10.pdf

- On the second page, second cell, you'll find the tag rates.

- On the first page, first cell, you'll see some rates per 10 - 15 second spot.

- First page also has a cell for CABLE.

- Make sure you at least have a session fee laid out.

Hope it helps as a guideline. I think we'll have more tips by the morrow.

Thanks, yep should be fairly straightforward calculation - Network Unit weighting and session fee are known + usage of 26-week cycle. Missing
link i guess is the specific Off-Cam category this fits under- i.e. in-show announce; open, BYTBs, Teases, billboards et.al - vs. Commercial(s)

That defined, think i can 'cipher' it out from there... Laugh

Well, the promos would fit under 10 - 15 second commercials, right? I don't know how long the others are, but if they're just short--one or two sentence--spots, that'd probably be tags.

Shouldn't everything outside of actual programming go under the commercial label? It makes sense to me.

Yeah,Yonie probably close enough for a ballpark non-union quote. Any other views welcome.

Thanks: )

I used to think I was reasonably intelligent -- until I went to the AFTRA website to ascertain some rates. It all made me feel like my head was about to asplode. Explode
