I've been trying forever to figure out how to do a phone patch on Google Voice with playback, without getting a mixer or building some weird contraption to do the mix minus thing. Finally got it with just my Duet 2. I plan to just leave it hooked up this way, since I'd rather not buy gear and take up the space on my small desk.
Mic goes into Input 1 on the Duet 2 and is the input on both the System Pref in the iMac and Audition.
Single balanced output to my monitor (do we really need stereo output) from Output L. This output is then Summed to Mono, and can playback through the single monitor.
Unbalanced output (in the form of a 6" patch cable) from Output R to Input 2 (which is set up as an instrument input)
Then, I turn off the monitors (I was just illustrating how I can have them hooked up and use them when I need them without unhooking and rehooking everytime), put on my headphones and record.
When playing back (at least with AA in waveform mode...no input monitoring) it is automatically mix minus because the output from the DAW is ONLY the playback, and the input from my mic doesn't go into the DAW unless recording (and doesn't playback while recording as I monitor input through the Maestro software).
And there it is folks! Phone patch on GV or Skype with Playback. I can even talk while it is playing without creating a loop, because the playback and the mic don't have the same inputs.
I'm sure people already knew this...but I could never find it on the forum before, so I though I'd add a small Tut to help anyone out who was in my boat. |
