What is an easy way to calculate exact total run time from multiple audio files?
I have been adding with a calculator, and that is just crazy! |

I keep a spreadsheet with a little routine that keeps tally of chapters, time and cumulative time etc.
Divide minutes by 60, add the remaining seconds, write down total seconds... repeat, add up and divide by... oh, wait...
There's This!
I still prefer my spreadsheet, but this is quick and simple _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

In Windows, I open my mixdown folder, select all the WAV files, right-click and select "Properties" and it gives the aggregate runtime.
With a couple of publishers I have to let them tell me what the final runtime is once they've done their edits. _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow

select all the files in windows (assuming they are MP3 or wav) and the info box at the bottom just tells you. _________________ Jeff

Create a new playlist in iTunes and drag all your files into it. Your total time is at the bottom.

Ask the editor/hubby what the total is while I sit back and eat air mailed chocolates. _________________ 006 member of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Mic. Bonded by sound.

Cool link, Liz. Bookmarked!
I use Twisted Wave and open all the files at once (without merging them). The total time is in the lower right.
Also, there's a cool little a for iPhone called timecalc. I use it a few times a week. It adds time like a calculator and converts nicely too.
Just goes to show you that there's more than one way to get a job done! |

I never even thought about the Windows Explorer thing. Awesome. I just needed this yesterday, too. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

Most of the time now I just use the Windows explorer method, but I also often keep a spreadsheet. If you enter the time as hours:minutes:seconds (even when the hours are zero) you can sum the total with a formula to get the final tally. _________________ Be well,

Thanks for the Explorer thing, Jeff. I've been using Math with a Pencil, and while it produces a very organic, suitable-for-framing product, I'm, well... math is hard, okay?

Jeff is right. The last time I tried to use math on here the llama cut me but good. _________________ Ben Stovall Voiceover
