I've been soliciting and getting some feedback on my current audiobook demos, and today I cut these two based on some of that feedback.

If you have a moment I'd love to hear your thoughts!

First-Person male narrator, two characters, male and female, mostly dialogue with limited non-dialogue narration:

Third-Person, two characters, male and female, more narration than dialogue:

Thank you very much!

Your reads sound a bit staccato to me... many times each word is pronounced individually as you might in an instructional video. My thought is books should be read more fluidly. Entice people into the picture/story you're creating for them with warmth and a bit of informality.

Here's a thought that might be up for discussion. I noticed you'd done little if any processing to your audio. Since audiobooks are generally compressed (to death) shouldn't our book demos be at least moderately processed to bring them close to a "published" sound?

Thanks for the feedback, Bruce. I'll see about cutting a new one with a more smooth delivery. You're not the only one to say that.

As to making demos sound like they do after they're processed, I don't know. I think I prefer a more natural sound for a demo. A lot of subtlety is lost when it's compressed so much.

For what it's worth, the only processing I did was to run the audio through the NS-1 noise reduction plugin at a very low setting (5) to get rid of a bit of the noise floor. That's easily my favorite plugin.
