For the first time, I've had a TV station comment on tech specs for a mix.
"-18" was all they said.
With CALM Act enforcement going on these days, is there an easy way for me to meet that spec? From what I've been able to find on-line it appears that -10db would be acceptable.
Can anyone clarify? _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

Here's a link to the ATSC documentation. Fair warning.... It will make your head hurt.

Most pertinent data for your purposes in Annex I.
Hopefully, Frank will jump in here to assist...... I'm sure he gets it better than most.... _________________ Don Brookshire

Thanks for that. It looks like -2dbTP is a good starting point.
I'm using the Massey HR meter in Pro-Tools to monitor at this point. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

Makes my head hurt too Todd.
What I'm trying to avoid is sending stuff out too loud. These days you can hear stations dealing with it on their end by throwing a hard limiter on the spot. It sounds bad....real bad. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

Yeah... I've heard that, too. Obviously, THEY haven't read it, either. _________________ Don Brookshire

This is the alignment reference level, typically what you would align a VU meter with etc. In ProTools, use a BF Essential Meter Bridge and set the Meter Calibration to -18 (RMS). _________________ Genus |
