I'm trying to record audio (some voice stuff i did) from my DVD player to my computer. For some reason the DVD won't play on the computer, so I'm running a cable from the DVD player's digital out to the computer's digital input and recording with Amadeus Pro (input: audio device). But everything is super loud and peaky, though the original recording sounds normal. So, wonder if this is a technical issue of some kind. Any ideas on how to remedy this?
Thx!
(I posted this on Gearslutz as well)...

Does the computer recognize the presence of the DVD in the drive? If so, DVD Audio Extractor might work (available for Windows and Mac OS).

The computer doesn't recognize the DVD--maybe a region thing. Otherwise, I would use Audio Hijack to extract the audio.
Someone on Gearslutz just commented: if recording two mono tracks, pan one hard left and the other hard right, otherwise it clips at +3db.

Will follow up...

Go analog and use a DVD player into a mixer > interface.

I think I found a fix.

It seems that previously I was recording from the DVD's digital out into the MacMini's digital in. When I do this I can't adjust the input gain! This time I used the DVD player's RCA cables into the Mini's regular audio in jack and could adjust the gain (for some reason)...and was able to turn the levels down.
Great!
