I listened on my monitors as relatively low volume. I liked the clarity of mic 1, mic 2 seemed to have the same mid upper clarity but added a little more bottom... in a muddy way that didn't help. In hyper-critical analysis mode, once I'd heard it, it became a small distraction. It could be simply that it needs a slightly modified technique.
I'd say #1 is better for you... but we all know what my beeping opinion is beeping worth _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

They're awfully close to one another, but the second one had a bit more bottom end. It also seemed a little more sensitive, but it didn't add much to the sound.
I like #1. But they really are close. _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow

I'm listening on Sony MDR-7506 and I definitely prefer the warmth and fullness of #2. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

I think mic 2 works better for your voice. Both sound pretty good. _________________ www.asapaudio.com |

Mic1 sounds a little thinner to me. Mic 2 has a little more body.
But the ARE damn close. _________________ Don Brookshire

Mic #1: Commercials (Cleaner through the mids & upper mids)
Mic #2: Audiobooks (A bit rounder & fuller...less listener fatigue for long form stuff.)
Mics 1 & 2: Pretty damn similar. _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

I hear mic #1 as having a little more top end bite than mic #2 (rather than #2 having more bass).

I think Doug said it well. I liked #2 a bit better because of a fuller sound.
They are pretty close though...and....if you worked #1 a little closer and got a little proximity effect it might be a dead heat. I also think the difference could be eq'd in. _________________ There are rules to the Universe. Learn them and prosper. www.HumbleVoiceover.com |

Your answers are rather surprising and I think you'll be quite shocked at the mics I'm using. Any guesses? _________________ Jeff

I'm thinking that little bump on the high end sounds like a Rode of some sort. NTK?

I agree with Bish. The clarity of #1 was more attention keeping. The #2 rumble roll kept me thinking of Rod Serling. A bit distracting because I am a Twilight Zone junkie.
But what do I know... I am deaf in one ear and can't see out of the other.

Soooo here are the results.
Mic 1 is my trusty Audio Technica AT3035, the same mic I've been using for 5 years to record countless spots, elearning and about 100 audiobooks. I bought it new for $250.
Mic 2 is a CAD GXL2400 that an audiobook publisher sent me, just in case I didn't have a mic. It sells for about $50, if you can find it at all.
I can look at this 2 ways:
1) Mic quality has increased such that the difference in audio quality is not in direct proportion to the cost of the mic.
Or...
2) I CAN ROCK EVEN THE CHEAPEST MICS! _________________ Jeff
