Don's unmistakable voice has been absent from the familiar opening of SNL for the last two shows. He's 95, so I got a little worried. Looks like he broke a hip a couple of weeks ago...
Let's all send up prayers and good thoughts for this iconic veteran of our industry. _________________ "Dammit Jim, I'm a voice actor, not an audio engineer!"

Aww, I sure will. I knew he must be getting up there, but 95 is quite an achievement! Here's to a full and fast recovery for Don. _________________ jen@jengosnell.com

My sincere best wishes to Don, the man who introduced millions of Baby Boomers to 'Jeopardy' (with Art Fleming), and who made the first announcement on NBC of President Kennedy's assassination (no audio exists because they didn't roll tape). Don was one of only two people to have had a lifetime contract with NBC: he and the late Bob Hope had been with the network since its earliest days in radio, before television came about. _________________ Mike

And before that, he introduced us older baby boomers to The Price is Right (with Bill Cullen). His is probably the very first "announcer voice" I remember from my childhood in the 50s ("Price authority, Michael C. Fina Jewelers; Price authority, Schiaparelli Furs. New York"). and most likely the voice that planted the seed in my head that this is what I wanted to do. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

That's the "modern" address. Zip codes came into being in 1963 but Spiegel was also a supplier of prizes on the old Price is Right from 1956 through 1965. For most of that time, Pardo announced it as "Spiegel, Chicago 9, Illinois." _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Don Pardo is an inspiration. He could've gone out to pasture but kept on working. _________________ Bobbin Beam
