Sigh - working for large companies has its good points and its bad points. I used to just email an invoice to my contact, done and done. Now they've implemented a new procedure to "simplify" things:
(names have been changed to protect the innocent)

Quote:
Steps to certificate a narration service

1. LM (Learning Methodologies representative) will enquire the narration service to the Vendor

2. Vendor sends quotation for the project by email to LM

3. With LM OK, Vendor starts the service

4. Once the work have been done, LM will certify the reception of the service to Company USA (Anne) adding the Vendor and Cost Center Responsible (Lilia) in CC. The email must include the following information:

· Contracted Item and quantities:

o ONE VOICE TALENT/ REC. MIN

o ADDITIONAL VOICES

· Cost center: 411010266 “USA - TRAINING PROGRAMS”

· Cost element: 5211148333 “Consulting - Advisory serv and consultancy”

· Certification Date

5. With the information provided by LM, USA: creates the HES under the corresponding contract number (3701394012) and replies to Vender with the PO Number by email.

6. Cost Center Responsible (Lilia) authorizes the HES in SAP and confirms so by email.

7. With that information the Vendor can prepare the invoice adding in it a reference both the PO number and the contract number in it.

"Certificate" as a verb? That sounds like something Philip Banks might say.

Obviously, this is NOT a US company, but another one of those damn mills.

Bangalor? Or perhaps, Mumbai?

Strangely enough, I quickly looked at it and thought... must be a US company Smile

I recently had a wonderful experience where I did a job for a "creative" department of a large monolithic corporate entity. To be paid, I had to provide an estimate for the job after doing it so they could raise the PO... with the PO raised, I could bill against my estimate... but I couldn't provide an estimate because I didn't have an accredited vendor number, to get a vendor number, I had to apply... round and round and round and...

ISO9000?
Sarbanes-Oxley?

Take your pick... $2,500 worth of internal corporate processing for a $1,000 invoice? It's one of the reasons I ran away screaming from the corporate world.

Oh, c'mon... I did say "I quickly looked" Smile

I'm doubting India as a source though... they usually have a better handle on formal or bureaucratic English than most Brits!

Actually... now I look at it, it reminds me of current US college level.

Heh - oh yes, English is not their first language....by far. Smile This is actually one of their better written communications.

No one has guessed the country yet, though!

I have been jumping through similar hoops with a major multi-national company since 2009. The people I do business with are here in CT. The people they get their budgets approved by are in MA. The accounts payable department is in GA. The corporate HQ is in the Netherlands. Following their billing procedures is a major faff.

I was contacted by a former client from her gmail account saying her new company wanted to use me. Sent over my rate sheet. Got accepted. Then SLAM - actually a huge corporation and I, too, had to apply to be a vendor. And round and round and round. I'm happy for the work, though, because they've got lots of it for me!
