I haven't seen that much "cartoon" blood since the old "Joe Fish" cartoon.

Thank you, Don. I think that comes from a comment made on a song title many years ago by my radio mentor, the legendary Dan Ingram (WABC, NY). He had an amazing gift of both mental imagery and the ability to put those images into words and squeeze it all in over song intros. The one in question was the 1968 Motown classic by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, "You're All I Need To Get By" which, according to Dan, was "a song about a man and his cattle prod."

I like cutting right to the chase. With a cattle prod or small chain saw, if need be. Wink

It reminds me sadly Wink of the old "Frog in a Blender" game/video from Joe Cartoon. It's got to be at least 10 years old. Just can't resist pushing those buttons.

Then you must not have seen the (very bizarre & genius) work of Don Hertzfeldt:

True story: I was such a big fan of "The Joesterizer - Frog Bender 2000", I made some desktop icons, including a spinning cursor, and sent it to Joe. He liked them so much, he made them available for download on his website. Much to my chagrin, I was not given any credit. Undecided

If anyone's interested, I still have those icons & cursors, along with the original FrogBender.exe file.

Ah the great Dan Ingram. I remember a story given me when I was working in St. Louis about how he got the job in NYC. I ripped off his method and used it to to get several jobs across the US.

Dan was a Production Director in St. Louis (yes more than "just" a DJ) he went to WABC New York and told the Hobo Laughing he could do a better job than their current afternoon man. He then recorded the stations jingles, sounders, and other positioners. Stripped the current announcers voice out, and put his in, just like HE was on the air in NYC. He did indeed sound better than the guy that had the job and won the gig.

For years I would choose a market and station, record their jingles, positioning statements, and research their music and make a aircheck EXACTLY as if I was on that station. That is the aircheck I would give to them. The only difference is I did not target anyone's job but used this method when there was openings.

Dan was a master and one of the greats. To be mentioned in the same breath as Rick Dee's , Howard Stern, and Robert W. Morgan.

Who, among the former DJs here, did not steal material from Dan Ingram?

The Four Tops’ “I Can’t Help Myself” was the subject of one of my all-time favorite ‘Ingramisms:’

“The story of the midget at the smorgasbord.”

When playing a Four Seasons song, I was partial to "Frankie Valli -- starring Barbara Stanwick."
