|
|
A longtime Mac user, I currently do not own an iPad, but am considering using one to read scripts. I'd like to hear from those who do use an iPad for this; especially about things like:
– getting the script into the iPad
– what as you use for reading and marking-up
– any pros and/or cons
Of course, any other info you're willing to share would be appreciated, also.
Thanks! _________________ Mike

...i went to an android tablet for audio books and e-learning long form scripts to save paper and ink.
since these are largely self-directed, i don't have as much need to mark 'em, and if i do need some kind of reminder, i just scribble it on a sheet of paper on the copy stand.
for short form and commercial reads, especially directed ones, i still prefer old-fashioned paper and a pencil.
the inexpensive tablet can get my scripts from a flash drive, or email attachments (since it can go online if needed).
would be interested in hearing how other people are working. _________________ rowell gormon

For the iPad, I use iAnnotate. This gives me the ability to add all the markups I need PLUS add audio recording notes inline with the text (for those difficult pronunciations when doing an audiobook).
If you don't need the voice capability, Adobe Reader is free for iPad and marks up really well.
To get scripts into the iPad, I always just open the email attachement in the program that I want to use. THIS is where an android tablet would really shine! You can't access the iPad file system in the iPad's stock condition. You can jailbreak it, but it'd be better to just get an android tablet that has the capability out of the box. They are cheaper too!
I would ditch the iPad and get an android tablet if I hadn't spent money on specific as that I use regularly. I also use it when I lead worship, and I haven't researched mounts for the Android tablets...the iPad mounts are easy to come by and universal (for all iPads after first gen) |

I occasionally use iAnnotate for my iPad as well, (for long-form stuff), and it's great, but I've never had a problem simply opening any files attached to an email, using the iPad itself. (Just tap on the .doc, .pdf or whatever, and it opens on the screen.)
Most of my work is short form (commercials and promo) and involves very little scrolling. In those cases, my favorite markup tool is just a dry erase marker directly on the screen. Just to be safe, you'll wanna have a screen protector on your device first. _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

I usually just open it from the email. I haven't printed a script in years. I have a monitor and keyboard set up where I record, but I LOVE the silent scrolling on the iPad.
If I think I may need to make revisions - for an ISDN or phone patch session, I'll open it in .... I think it's the Word to Go a, or iAnnotate. I've used iAnnotate for the audiobooks I've done. |

I use iAnnotate with an old iPad. I like iAnnotate more and more and keep finding new features in it.
I have trouble often opening documents on my iPad straight from email, particularly Word docs. I've taken to downloading them and then pulling them into Dropbox. Usually I can open them from the Dropbox a and shunt to my preferred program from there. _________________ Kendra Hoffman

iPad + GoodReader == Win.
I love the iPad just because it's quiet.
BIG GIANT PIECE OF ADVICE: Set your iPad to "Airplane Mode" BEFORE recording anything. When I forget to set mine it can produce a lot of interference if it's within a few feet of my mic cable, and it's ruined more than one recording. So make sure you disable the radios in it before you record. _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow

+1 on Goodreader. Settings on Goodreader allow you to use your local wireless to upload pdf's or other docs from desk or laptop. In addition to disabling wireless also go to general settings and disable auto device lock for long form work. Unless you are planning to store large amounts of video, photos and music go for the smaller storage space and save the money. _________________ jonahcummings |

Another vote for Goodeader. I've been a fan of this a for years. I like that I can mark the scripts up. _________________ Intuit and do it!

Being the old school person that I am, I much prefer paper -- but for long form bits, the iPad is great. I use the pages a for complex things -- otherwise the email does it.
I have not had a problem with interference in my studio yet -- and I have never shifted to the airplane mode -- but it's a goof thing to keep in mind. _________________ http://MichaelSchoen.com |
