I have a job to do in London on Thursday, it will take all day and I have no intention of wearing myself out as I am far too elderly and frail.
On Wednesday evening I will drive to Inverness to board the Caledonian Sleeper at 2040hrs. As I sleep the train will take me to London arriving at just before 8am. After work I will enjoy some time in London and then jump on the sleeper, go to bed and wake up in Inverness all ready to drive home and start work fresh as a daisy. |

Well played sir. Hope you don't oversleep and miss your stop and end up back in Inverness _________________ Ben

We love the train. It's too bad our country's decision makers think constant bail-outs to the airlines make more sense than a well-run railway system.
I love to fly, too! Especially when time is of the essence. I just think rail and air travel are nice companions, not rivals. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I agree Deirdre.
And much as I love bicycling and would like to see it take an increasingly important role in transportation in the US, I have very mixed feelings about seeing railroad beds turned into bike trails. Once you give up a railroad right-of-way, it's gone forever. So my dream of seeing trains resume their former freighting responsibilities and watching trucks disappear from the highways ...
Sigh.
Anybody ever buy a Eurail pass? They used to be an amazing bargain, and so luxurious.
Listen to me. I need a rocking chair and a spittoon. |

It was 1985 and we were in a couchette (sp?) heading to southern Spain and on to Portugal. One of our traveling companions regaled us with the advice column from Cosmopolitan magazine. Another warded off the gypsies who were looking for trouble. We drank some wine, ate some bread and cheese, talked all night, slept very little, disembarked in Ayamonte, maybe, at a desolate, lonely rail station. It was fantastic. I had a Eurail pass. Please hand me the spittoon. How's the whittling coming along? _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

Next month I have a gig in Osaka. It's about a 6 hour round trip out of Tokyo.
The little kid in me loves these trips. I mean, who wouldn't want to ride on one of these?
Pure Sci Fi.
