Yep. The comedy flags are at half staff today.

Just look at what he could do with nothing but a stick:

Thanks for putting that up Bruce. Yeah, he was pure improv genius. There would be no Robin Williams without Jonathan Winters.

I love Rob Paulsen's story of his very first Smurfs' session with Jonathan.

A great comedic artist who didn't need 4 letter words to get a laugh.

Jonathan Winters was one of only a scant few comedians who baby boomer children could enjoy. Typical comedians dealt in topical subjects like politics and other adult issues. But Jonathan's amazing ability to improvise with almost nothing, embellished with his great talent for vocal characterizations, made him relatable to almost anyone and literally outstanding.

It's easy to see how he inspired Robin Williams, whose earlier antics were pretty much an over-caffeinated Jonathan Winters on steroids.

As for his voice characterizations, how many realized – in the clip Bruce posted – that in the golfing bit he was doing a very good impression of Bing Crosby?

I thought his Bing Crosby was spot-on! To date, even better than a Rich Little, et al...
