|
|
So, I recorded a number of audiobooks last fall. Months later now I learn that Audible spot checks the books and a QC editor found TWELVE errors on a book I had done! One was a word flip that made no difference, but to be true to the author I guess needed to be fixed.
The other eleven were missing words. Missing words? How could I and the original QC editor miss words? I listened to the original audio and the words were all there. I then had the producing company send me the mastered mp3s in question.
Yep, words were missing... all at the beginning of phrases. Whoever had mastered the audio had cranked up the gating so much it was muting the beginning of dozens of sentences and phrases. We're lucky they only picked on eleven of them! I wrote a scathing email to the production company mentioning things like "professionalism" and "ruining our reputations". I reminded them that Audible clearly states that in mastering you use enough gating to just remove unnecessary noise, and not so much that you chop off words! I got a "thank you for your comments" kind of reply. I guess I'm not reading for them again.

Whoa. Not cool. I haven't had that problem and I hope I don't. Sorry that happened. The bummer is it's already out in the marketplace. I hope Audible takes note about the company as well. |

Ah, so just like voice-over, it now appears that the talent and skills required for the craft of professional audio production can also be had from a gum machine.
How encouraging. Good thing these people are not in health care. _________________ Mike

At your own risk, you assume they are not also in healthcare. Buried in the middle of my resume are some years where I served in a risk management position for a company that owned some hospitals. I went to several seminars on the subject and sat through some slide shows about surgery gone bad that will "toss your lunch".
Now, if you will hand me the scalpel, I have a chapter to edit. Sponge, please. |
