And this is why we discourage clients from appearing in their own ads....

I never knew "reverse" rhymed with "service".

But apparently it does.

Okay, it's all cheesy and actually made by some slick ironic hipster dudes, but I love it for this:

It emphasizes my service.

For all the cheese, I get the impression that this dude works hard and provides value for the money.

Those blogging/spreading the viral joy are all over this. I just placed a bet with my bookie for 100m YT hits by the end of the month.

In an over-the-top ad, sometimes there is some local color or a back-story we don't know about. I think of the automobile dealer advertising of 40 years ago as a good example. Macho, colorful, ego-driven guys came up with images and slogans that could leave you with arched eye-brows if you were new in town. When you asked a local: "What's up with that?" you may get the history behind the slogan, or the personality quirks of the guy (back then car dealers were ALWAYS guys!) doing the puzzling ad.

After my broadcasting years I worked for one of those guys.... I ran his big honkin' computer and got to know him and the family well. There are some interesting stories to tell that I only share of Friday nights in a dark tavern among people I think will never reveal where they heard the story.

Maybe the transmission guy is my dealer's stepson?

In the creative world, it's known as 'poetic license.' Yeah... I know. Rolls Eyes

But, in a world where a national spot (I heard it on NYC radio) for a well-known brand a number of years ago in which the VO talent pronounced 'percolate' as perk-yoo-late, anything is possible.

Actually, this could be a good thread. Here's more Badvertising.

Going back to local ads, while I was Production DIrector about 10 years ago, the copywriter brought me a spot one day for a just-opened local business. The first sentence read: "Finally, {insert local town name} has a little class."

Somewhere, I guess, insulting your potential customers right off the bat is a good way to introduce oneself to the community.

In a city as huge and diverse as LA I'm sure the commercial works to bring in quite a few customers.

Me? Nuh uh.

I do remember watching a show the filmmakers (Rhett and Link) had -- Commercial Kings. It was pretty fun to watch them come up with the ideas for these local commercials, then bring them to life...
