Web based agency sent me an audition for a job at a fee for which I will not audition. In order to help out I audtioned and got the job. Direction was "not as you did it but ..."
I did the (self record) session and sent the audio.
5 days later the client gave feedback ..Not like that (as I was told) but like this .....
I did the session for no additional fee although I made no mistake.
Client feedback. No, not like that! Like that defined as "as directed".
Agency asked if I would do it again but this time with client directing over Skype. THEY WILL FAFF ABOUT and will leave me with a pile of editing. This time they're offering an extra £50.
Company is a big cosmetic company and the ad agency people want to play like the big ad agency creatives without having to pay for their creative input.
Now, this is not their fault, it's mine. I broke my rules and got bitten. My response to the vo agency was that I wouldn't do it again but would also not charge so the client is free to select another VO with their budget intact.
Sometimes I can be so dim it's not true. |

Hey, remember when Dennis Miller used to make all those obscure references? Now, he's become one. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

It probably happens to all of us; we decide to do something for someone for some reason and it comes back to bite us in the arse. I am particularly reminded of stories about deciding to "do a favor" to a charity, only to have it come back and be a "client from hell" situation. And then, sometimes, these things turn out to be delightful. It's so hard to tell up front which it's going to be.
Sorry you had to go through that, Philip. But now you have another data point for your files. _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

I have this mental image of Philip beating his head against his ever-so-solid studio door, hissing the words "stupid, stupid, stupid" with every blow.
Jazz and Bess look on with quiet concern and some confusion in their eyes. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Yea, I broke one of my own rules today and got hammered for it. I got to the client's studio to read one two-page script for $300 ($150/page) plus $50 for travel, as it was 1.5 hours from my house. I got there and was told that there were now three scripts, not one. I pointed out that I'd expect each script to be billed equally and was told, "Of course, we'll take care of you". I didn't get it in writing, though. DUH! When I got home I got a call from the studio saying what an absolutely perfect job I did and what a pleasure I was to work with, but that they'd only be paying me $500 total because that's all they felt they wanted to pay. So, basically, this studio in South Norwalk, CT felt it was OK to stiff me $450 just because they felt like it. Nice. This was the first time I ever worked with them, so I really should have known better than to trust them. I’m normally much more careful than that but it was all thrown at me very last minute. It would be nice to be able to hope that others have professionalism and integrity in the workplace. I guess you just can’t trust folks these days. _________________ Joni Lambert

Bobby, that may be the case, but they had agreed upon a rate beforehand:
Quote: | I got to the client's studio to read one two-page script for $300 ($150/page) plus $50 for travel, as it was 1.5 hours from my house. |
Adding scripts to the mix without being upfront about the compensation is not...well upfront. Sure $500 is not bad, but the way it was handled was less than professional. _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!
