Prize Whores (Trailer)
From the YouTube Description:
Quote: | See what happens when Austin DJ & first time filmmaker Jenn Garrison turns the camera onto the world of radio to learn more about the industry's unique groupies. PrizeWhores is a documentary about a group of people who have formed their own 'community' based upon their extreme hobby of attending radio-station remotes, movie premiers and rock concerts. They coordinate their lives based upon these events. They are actually called 'prizewhores' by the staff of the radio stations, music venues and movie houses they frequent. As you will learn, winning is fun. But, it ain't the only thing.
"What a charming ride with four of Austin's most eccentric characters. Great story, great music, great prizes. It made me want to turn the radio on, pick up the phone, and win something!" - Paul Stekler, Emmy winning documentarian
PrizeWhores quickly became a cult classic in Austin, Texas and amongst radio and media folk across the country. PrizeWhores was filmed during 1999-2000, at the beginning of the DV filmmaking revolution, on the Canon XL1 and Sony Vx1000 and edited on Final Cut Pro 1. |

Thirty-five years after I hung up my radio DJ spurs, I can still hear the names of most of the Prize Pigs (we called 'em "pigs" rather than "whores") floating around in my head. It was quite a revelation when I changed stations and had all the same old familiar people calling in for the contests.
When I occasionally see one of those names on Facebook I wonder if it's the same old Prize Pig or just someone with the same name. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Yeah, we call them "prize pigs"...but maybe it's the state of the industry, we don't seem to have as many as we used to... _________________ Tracy Kinkead

So far, the score is Pigs 3, Whores 1. (Can't wait 'til someone finds us by Googling that!) _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

i'm throwing in prize pimps for better seo ... and it's not a bad name, but not what we said at wkvt fm - the rock you grew up with ... and wkvt am - news you can use. (YUK!)
i think it was prize pigs ... often confused with "the pig" which was the cart deck down the hall from the broken chair and the carcass of the grilled whole chicken in the newsroom. _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

Prize pigs. There was a whole family of them, and to this day when I see that last name that's the first thing I think of. _________________ Dangerous.

Pigs. And nothing ever scared me so much as when a previous showed up in a new market. _________________ Don Brookshire
