Who wants to be a mudokon?

Quote:
Ever wanted to be in an Oddworld game? You could be in with a chance if you read on! We’re looking for some voices for the the natives and workers of RuptureFarms in Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty. If you think you’ve got what it takes to be a Mudokon, have a go! We’re going to be very picky, so you’ll need the right equipment:

Decent microphone for recording your voice
Soundcard or Audio Interface capable of 24bit/96kHz recording
Good cables (if there’s electrical feedback we can’t use it)
The script to read out
A SoundCloud account

. . .

Quote:
there is no guarantee that some or any of the submissions will be used. Obviously, by entering you give us permission to use the recording any way we need to. We also need permission from a grownup if you’re under 16 years old. Anyone that’s chosen will get to be immortalised in the end credits as well, as a thank you.

Obviously.

I love they mention that they are "going to be very picky." Guess even real game studios have realized they can get people to work for free. It'll be fun when they have to deal with people who aren't pros though...blah.

I'm guessing some marketing schmuck came up with this brilliant idea....

And the guys in production will be burning him in effigy very, very soon. Rolls Eyes

Dammit... I really need to get some good cables to stop the dreaded "electrical feedback".

But what tickled me the most was the requirement for a 24-bit/96kHz recording. This is further explained, saying it gives them "headroom". So, OK for me to normalize to 0dB then as long as it's 96kHz?

There's a dent in my desk from where I've been beating my head against it.

That's what they meant by "headroom." Shocked

They should be advertising on Newgrounds.

I used to do some pro-bono work for students and this sounds a lot like some of them grew up, got to studios, and still think there are OMG!!! LOL!!! voices out there willing to work for free.

I thought bit rate was what gave better headroom....not sample rate. At any rate...that's a really bad rate. Get Lost

Ya got a point....I just assumed if they were making an Oddworld game they had to be semi-legit.

The original Oddworld team is no more. The bulk of their stuff is now outsourced.

Thus, the dreck you see above. Rolls Eyes

Yeah, and the quality of voices on NG were rarely good. But then, neither were the ears.
