i'm drawn to xbmc with a combo of netflix/hulu plus/streaming/1Channel/whatever
anybody have any experience with this - or something else i should be looking at? _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

I'm interested in this, too. Really tired of what I'm paying vs. how much I'm actually watching (not much). _________________ Bob Ransom

I'm pretty interested too. I've tried Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Amazon's service, and they all were pretty lacking. Almost all of the movies my kids wanted to watch or the shows my wife and I were interested in were unavailable (like Duck Dynasty and Top Shot). If XBMC gets its feed from the other services, it may be lacking too. I'll be watching to see how it goes |

We've been fairly happy with Apple TV, watching Hulu, Netflix, and renting movies and such from iTunes. We also have Amazon Prime (which we still have to watch through a computer) which has hundreds of other free and cheap programs the others don't.

Bruce,
You might want to pick up a Roku box for your TV. They're cheap ($49 - $99 depending on model) and will allow you to watch Amazon Prime plus a hundred or so other streamed channels on your TV. We use it for Prime, Netflix, and a few others. It will do Hulu Plus but we don't subscribe, at least not yet while we still have satellite. _________________ Bob Ransom

We love our Roku - streaming Netflix and Amazon Prime. Tried Hulu Plus once but didn't stick with it. |

I tried out XBMC, but ultimately migrated to Plex which is based on XBMC. I've been using it for a couple of years now and am completely cable free. Check it out here:http://www.plexapp.com/ _________________ Ben Stovall Voiceover

downloaded xbmc to my android tablet last night to check it out - added 1Channel and there seems to be any/every television show i'd ever want to watch - current episodes uploaded pretty quickly --- huge list of movies as well.
i've chosen this box because it's android ...
and this remote because ... well ... it's cool. since it's android i COULD use my phone or tablet as a remote - but don't really want to rely on that. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

i watched the new episode of "suits" at 9pm cst last night - if i'd had waited till 10:06pm cst, i could have watched it on 1Channel. i think we have a winner. there is also ustvnow, which streams 9 networks live. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

I just downloaded a copy to my computer to play with, before I invest in any additional boxes. Got my fingers crossed.
Ben: I'm looking at Plex, too, though I find their website to be less informative as to what it can do than XMBC's. _________________ Bob Ransom

Sounds interesting - we cut the cable 2 years ago and have been doing more watching than ever before - using the cable internet to stream off the laptop via HDMI, and a homebrew HDTV antenna to pick up local OTA stations in HD, it's been pretty darn good. Hulu regular & Netflix have worked fine for us as most of the TV shows on cable are crap anyway. Then there are the, uh, "other" sites and streams....but between that and my beloved Abbott & Costello movies on DVD, we're in good shape. _________________ Chris Mezzolesta, Voice Talent

MY sony blu ray player has built in support for Netflix, Hulu Plus Amazon, Plex and YouTube. I don't care about watching television ever again. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Basic cable and internet are provided free in my apartment complex.
Until recently the cable was tolerable at best. Some local stations, TCM and public stations with toms of ethnic channels. Which is ok. I practice my spanish and some of the gals in the novellas are hot.
Earlier this month the cable co went to war with CBS, removed all CBS channels and replaced them with kiddy stuff. In addition the TCM channel is now gone, weather gone, Fox News gone. etc... Some of the good international news, gone as well. About the only thing on basic cable anymore is QVC and soul redemption. You can spend money you don't have on junk and be absolved the next channel over.
I ordered a Roku today.

The one & only problem I'm having is finding a reliable live stream of fox news for xbmc. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis
