So I was hunting around on Craigslist for work, responded to an ad and I go this reply:
Hi Neil,
I don't have any English projects coming up, but the last French project we did involved reading through a script that was instructions for e-learning modules. It was 8 hours per day, 1 hour paid lunch. It was different from traditional recordings for, say, commercials where you need to repeat the sentence or even word over multiple times. The voiceover artist simply had to read through the script but there was very little repetition involved. They could choose if they felt they needed to repeat the sentence/word.
If you can give me even a broad idea of your rates, I can keep you on file. The rate offered would really depend on the project. As I mentioned, we don't typically do English projects but I can keep you on file just in case something comes up.
Have any of you ever done anything like this? If so, what is a fair rate for something like this? Personally this sounds like a wee bit of a nightmare, but for the right price I might be game. Just looking for general insight on this.
Thanks again all! _________________ http://neilkhessvo.com |

Generally, a waste of your time. Legitimate voice seekers don't expect to find professional talent trolling CL for work. Weasels sometimes offer $10/hr for inexperienced noobz, but they're not really the kind of people you'd want to work for anyway.
The best you can hope for is the occasional documentary project that has merit, but no real budget. Great for your reel, and maybe IMDB credit, if you're lucky.... But not groceries. _________________ Don Brookshire

What Jeff and Don said.
Elearning gigs are just like any others... find your rate and respond to audition requests, or get out there with a Google search for elearning production houses. Rates are not wonderful... some will pay as low as $0.10 per word... the better producers will be $0.25 per word and up.
To riff a little on Don's second point. There will be projects that come along that you will want to be associated with... and the money becomes secondary. Yesterday, I did a piece for an indie movie... I cut my rate to the bone (and probably would have done it for free) because it looked cool and I wanted to be part of it. Of all places, it came from the guy reaching out on Twitter... so alternate and non-traditional sources are worth exploring. I've even had a well-paying, legitimate gig from Craigslist _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish
