Some of you may remember my mentioning a year or so ago a foreign studio which, upon initial contact to do a job, teased that full payment would come in advance of the session. The morning of the session, the payment had not come, and the studio then said payment would instead come within 10 days. When the 10th day passed without payment, I was told their payment policy was 30 days.
That was just one such incident with them. Now this same studio emailed me last week, saying they have a :30 TV spot VO they'd like me to do, and asked for my rates. I 'adjusted' my rates for this studio and submitted them. In their reply, the :30 TV spot VO had suddenly changed to a :30 RADIO spot VO. And I'm guessing that's only because the rate I submitted for the TV VO is $250 higher than that for radio.
Knowing the history, would anyone care to say what they would do in this case?
(I'm torn between requiring full advance payment and just not answering their emails anymore.) _________________ Mike

You might as well ask for the money up front. Based upon your account of their history, they may just stop emailing you, making option #2 automatic. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

1. TV and Radio are fairly easy to distinguish just by reading the copy. If it's ultimately a TV, confer with them before doing the job.
2. If anyone pays me in 30 days or less, I consider it a gift. _________________ Never do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the Paramedics
