I now own both pair. (but not for long)

I had purchased the HD280 Headphones.
I was rather pleased with them since they had 32 db of isolation from outside noise and they sounded great. I know others here use them. They are considered a "work horse."

Today I bought the newer model HD380 Headphones.
The difference in price is considerable, but because of a sale at my local retail store I was able to pick them up for exactly the same price.

What I found was interesting. In the store I could find very little difference in how they sounded other than the HD380 Headphones had a slightly wider stereo field. But that wasn't why I needed them, so that wasn't important.

BUT...I have found that switching between the two in my studio the newer model has a much tighter low end. Where on my voice I had thought I sounded a bit "muddy" in the 280s...the 380's showed me to sound clear and sharp.

This makes working with them a lot easier. Nothing worse than sounding crappy in your ears while you're trying to record.

That's my mini review. If you have the 280s...good phones. But, if you can get the 380s...I don't think you'll be disappointed. They are lighter. Fit your ears more comfortable...and I am here to testify....make you sound great in your ears. YMMV

In this case the HD380 were on sale for 99.99 at our local Best Buy. However, there were EXTREMELY hard to find. It's odd, but the same thing happened with the HD280s I purchased. (when they were 99.99 and NOT on sale) I had to order them and have them delivered. Best Buy simply didn't have them in stock at either store (we have two) In their online ordering the HD380s are still now marked at 199.99.

Regardless of "being on sale" my impression is that they didn't have many (or any) currently in stock in the first place. (except on display)

I finally got out of them that...

If you see something marked down in the store on sale but it's not available (and the same price is not available online) that if you go to the store physically and have them order it for you from there they can then change the price to the "in store" sale price.

Best Buy is one of the few surviving Electronics Big Box chains in the U.S. Most people these day use box stores to simply "hands on" examine what they would like to purchase and then simply order it online (usually for less). The end of "big box" stores would seem to be inevitable.
