I won a two month free trial of VoiceZam through Paul Strikwerda's blog post, so I thought I'd give it a try!

I've uploaded my demos into the system and now use it on my website. I didn't really want to just embed the player, so inspired by Tom Test I created individual images to launch the demos. Inspired by Dave Courvoisier (and because the VZ code doesn't play nice with Squarespace), I used FancyBox lightbox code to pop out the player.

Phew. Now - has anyone found creative uses for the Zamlinks? I linked my demos with a unique Zamlink in my email signature, but other than that, I don't see a lot of other uses.

Adam, in addition to the generic email signature, I've created individual Zamlinks for my FaceBook business page, specific Twitter posts, and email blasts.

I'm on the lookout for other uses as well, so please report back if you come up with other ideas!

I make a unique Zamlink for every entity I market to, making some sort of abbreviation of their name or whatever, so that I can track that in my Zamtistics. If posting on Twitter, I usually use the date in MMYY format. I have seen where I sent someone a link months ago and they came back to it a couple times more recently. Gotten a couple of clients already and put on a number of rosters. Can't hurt, and again, I wasn't getting this kind of response from just sending out links to mp3s...Works for me!

I do somewhat like Chris. I already had direct links to some (4) demos in my email signature. I linked them to the individual demos in the player. (I use canned responses for the sig) When I send an email it takes just a few seconds to add an abbreviation to the end of the links - which I note in a spreadsheet. Then I can see exactly who's listened to my demos - what they've listed to and for how long. It sounds like a lot of steps but it only takes about 10 seconds.

Chris - Twitter is a good idea! I don't usually market my demos in Twitter posts...but perhaps it's time. Especially if you're direct responding to a company's post or something...

Email blasts are a yes too - I have two email campaigns going out this morning that have trackable links in them ready to go.

The statistics are interesting, the more I look at them the more I wonder how useful they are in some ways. The "Company" field is kind of useless - so far they show Comcast, ATT&T, Verizion, etc....which could be anyone of a bajillion people - kinda pointless.

Then - because I don't think this is cookie based tracking, you can't track an individual's use of your player. If there are 5 people from all over the country playing your demos at the same time, and they all happen to use Comcast as their internet service provider (very possible), then you have no way knowing which user played which demo is what order, or how they jumped around.
(this is all assuming they're not using a unique ZamLink)

The statistics were what I was most excited about, but they're more limited than I thought.

Now - if we could somehow automatically create a new ZamLink code and apply it to every visitor to the site....then we'd be in business!

That's what the NSA is in business for Wink I'm not sure how reasonable it is to expect VoiceZam to be able to specifically identify each individual using the web! You can best approximate this by creating a new ZamLink for each person you're writing to.

Suggest it to Bob Merkel. He seems quite open to input from the "Peanut Gallery."

Arlene - that kind of tracking is not uncommon, every good analytics program does it standard. Nothing NSA about it!

It'd be nice to hook it in with Google Analytics somehow....

Ok...maybe you guys can answer this part. So, on your website you have the pop out player, but your emails just have a link. Is there a way to have the email link go to your website, and then automatically pop out your player? This way, when someone is done listening to your demo, they are already sitting on your website. Thoughts?

Yes...now that would be nice. The ZamLink opening up on their site and not mine is a definite downside. They could get to your site by clicking the "information" button...but that's relying on them.

Technically, coding-wise, I don't see why it wouldn't be possible.

I've got a guy trying to code it for me (with the ability to easily modify the zamlink in the email signature). I'll post code if he gets it worked out.

Let us know Jason! If you're paying him, I'd gladly chip in for a workable solution.

If I'm understanding it right - he'd have to create another level of server-side tracking implemented on YOUR website. You'd create another unique link identifier, and tag it to your website. For example, send a link like therealcoolguy.com/linktag. When the incoming click hits your website, the script interprets that link as a command to pop up your commercial demo (or whichever demo you chose to link to), which then pops up using the zamlink you created so that the Zamtistics can track it.

All this to "keep" the user on your site instead of sending them to the VZ site...I think it's worth it Smile

I'm thinking implementation should be easier than that. I'd think that in theory, all you'd need to have is a link to the website that automatically opens the zamlink once it gets to the site. That should be doable with a single link, providing the voicezam player is all set up on the site already. Tracking should be all in voicezam. I'm no web guy though...so we'll see LOL

Or just make sure your Zamplayer is right on the front page and you're in bidness. You might lose the individualized tracking that way, but they're on your site.
