Some of that Texas stuff seemed quite normal to me. Apparently they either don't deep fry a lot of truly weird stuff, or the author didn't find it.

This year at the Big E, New England's version of a state fair, we could have enjoyed, among other treats, deep fried butter and deep fried Kool Aid. I didn't try either of those delicacies, although I did treat myself to a slice of chocolate covered bacon.
