Actually, nobody really knows exactly what its mass is compared to the Sun. The usual range in the past was between 7 and 30 solar masses. It would be easy to figure out if Betelgeuse had a companion star or a planet; then we could calculate the mass more accurately. It's a supergiant star, and it's also a variable star (which makes it more tricky to derive its mass).

I've seen recent estimates of its mass to be around 11 or 12 solar masses.
