I may have occasion to use this, but I don't want to buy a subscription until I know it works.

On the site, there's a FREE account, and a VO account for $159 -- I'm assuming I would need the VO account...? What is the free account good for, then?

I want to try it, but I don't want to fork out $159 if A) no studios will use it, and b) it doesn't work well for me.

Only one person of the two using it needs to be a registered user. Whoever the registered user is, is given a "producer" user name and password, and a "VO" user name and password. Presumably the one recording logs on to the site as the producer. The recording party needs to have the software to record audio directly off the Internet or a connection from their computer's output into their software. The VO just logs in and if your mic is recognized by your computer as the input audio device you're on your way.

You both must use Google's Chrome browser to log on to the site.

The VO account is free to try for 30 days. I don't know anything about the "free" account other than it uses a lower bit rate, but the producer I tested with said the lower rate sounded good to him, similar to the higher rate which we also tried.

It seems to work very well from the reports here.

Let us know how it goes, yes?

Thanks, Bruce -- I didn't know about the free trial, because I can't find any mention of it on the site, only a free account for radio stations... but that's definitely good to know.

However, the client is now sticking with ISDN, I believe, so everything is moot... BUT I would like to try this puppy out sometime after the holidays, if anyone would be so kind as to walk me through it with their guest log-in... Laugh

Kristin: I had to Google "ipDTL free trial" to find it, but here's the page:

http://www.inqualitymedia.com/ipdtl/cripps/

Look for the link about halfway down the page.

Thanks, Mike!

I'm sure I'll take advantage of this, but I'd like to wait till I have the opportunity to use it for an actual job before I start the 30-day clock running... seems like a bit of a waste, otherwise.

But man, if it works as well as people are saying, I'd love for it to take the place of ISDN, and soon.

A studio I do a fair amount of work for in England is going to use it going forward, (that will then pay for itself) and I was approached by a production house in upstate NY that has ISDN but is getting ipDTL and wants to use that more. They said they saw that I had ipDTL, and then asked for my demos.

So I understand not wanting to get it until you have clients that request it, that makes sense. That might be sooner rather than later!
