So yesterday I thought my 528e had died. Well, the preamp, anyway. I couldn't get a decent signal without the gain all the way turned up. I even called Symetrix who checked a few settings with me and then, after getting my serial number, informed me that my box was 15 years old and they couldn't fix it, I'd have to send it elsewhere. Found out it would cost me about as much to fix it as a new DBX 286S. Almost bought one today, and figured I would sell the Symetrix for parts when.... I discovered that the -15 pad button was pushed in. And now I feel like an idiot....

The devil is in the details. I tease video people "anyone can point with a camera" but audio really is rocket science Wink

Conversely, instead of feeling like an idiot, you SHOULD feel elated! Ain't it wonderful when you find out it's an easy fix?!

The "idiot" is the guy at Symetrix who should have known to ask you if the 15db pad was engaged.

Whenever I do something like that, I always remember Scott P., who gave an AT2035 a bad review because it didn't sound good when he was talking into the wrong end.

Sorry Scott, I just can't let go!!!

I hate/love when that happens.

It's one of those "can't see the forest" things.

Yup. I always remember it as "Can't see the forest for the trees"

In this case it's 'so many wires and boxes and stuff…that you miss the "obvious" switch'.

That was a crossthread joke from Bruce's post a bit back.

Okay, let's bury this puppy:
- For one thing, it wasn't the wrong END, it was the wrong SIDE.
If you've ever used an AT2035 you'll know there's nothing to differentiate the mike side from the non-mike side.
- Next: I had blonde roots at that time. And was on crack. And had just woken up.

Love you too, Rick. Kiss

Oh, and finally: After finding the correct side... I still didn't care for it that much.
