In preparation to trying out the Apollo Twin interface as a replacement for my current pre, interface and mixer, I sent an email to UA to ask them about the best way to route my channels to get the mix-minus set up for client patch playback. I only wanted to verify the functionality before I got the device.

THESE GUYS ARE INCREDIBLE!

Not only did a tech email me back the same day. He gave me a detailed breakdown of exactly how to set up inputs and outputs in the DAW, Patch software, and Console aHobo Tounge AND sent pictures with specific inputs and output settings outlined.

If their products are as good as their support, I will look for any reason to buy gear from UA in the future. I was blown away!

I've had nothing but great support from them from day one. I bought my UAD-2 Duo card back in the middle of 2009 and it's been awesome since.

That's huge... I'm going back and forth with Focusrite on one client's 2i2 problems and another set of issues with Allen & Heath. It's a slog.
THAT'S what you pay for when you go with a company like Universal Audio that caters the PROFESSIONAL market. Another +1 for the Apollo stuff. Dying to get my hands on one for training and testing purposes.

I am loving the Twin. The only snag I have run into the input and output of programs like Skype or SC won't allow you to utilize the virtual inputs, and so the only way I've found to do the mix minus is to send the output from the computer to the input on the Twin and then physically to send it back through the aux out on the Twin into the built in input of the computer. This will be an issue for anyone using a newer iMac, as the new iMacs only have the headphone output...no input.

Other than that, everything works great. No issues with SC and great sounding audio. It is also easy to mute the input quickly for a cough or to clear your throat, and it's quick to adjust headphone and monitor volumes.

Exactly why I haven't dealt with them for 8 years now...

Thankful for the companies that ARE out there that get it!

Jason, good to know about the lack of a proper mix-minus function. That's where I believe the id22 has it beat. I guess it comes down to what your priorities are... I do the same exact thing with the Apogee Duet, using the Mac built in audio device for Skype duties. I recently discovered plugging a tiny Optical DAC into the Mac Mini output works wonders. I am using this little guy (DB will like the name of it): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009GER8A6/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The UA tech has a couple ideas I haven't tried yet, so I'll be messing with it more when I get a break in the work.

Alrighty, it is confirmed. The Apollo Twin is NOT gonna work. I would still need a mixer or a bunch of funky cabling to get the same setup I'm using for mix-minus. I will probably just be sticking with what I've got for now. If anyone has an M5 they want to sell, I may be headed that direction Smile

Apollo Twin is headed back to Sweetwater.
