Hello all you Banjo Players...and Phillip,

I know, I know....there are tons of new connection possibilities these days. I use them all. Trust me. But do any of them not require a client to sign up for something? Well Source Live from Source Elements is one. Basically it streams your session to any web browser. Ironically I think Google Chrome is the only one that has issues. But anyway...it acts just like Source Connect stand alone in Pro Tools with a link plug in.

You still use a cellphone to hear the client, but it is like one way ISDN more or less because they can hear all the nuance etc. And they love it because they don't have to buy something to take part. Just click a link to your stream. There is a 1-2 second delay. So muting the stream and unmuting your phone between takes is a must for avoiding poorly timed responses to the client's questions (because of delay).

This tool was mainly designed by Source Elements for mix engineers to be able to have a client listen in on their final mixdowns etc. But...I use it for VO clients that don't have ISDN and still want to hear better than phone patch quality. and you still need to send final files after the session via FTP or whatever. I think it costs $300 or so...

Anywho...check it out if you want to. I believe you can do a trial 15 day run at it.

Just wanted to share in case this benefits anyone.

Now back to your banjo playing everyone...

I has a very heavy buffer of almost 5 seconds so keep that in mind... I've heard on occasion it's been used to record, but in a fast paced production work flow it's not acceptable. On slower paced, long form projects, it could be useful, but you'd need to use it alongside Skype for more real-time communication. With SC Now there will be a client portal you can setup so they DON'T need to sign up to use it, as I understand it. Should be cool!

Hey that sounds good with SC Now with the client portal. I would get it.

The delay is about 3 seconds with my use of Source Live. I just use a cell phone to talk with client between takes and mute the stream.

It works for me and a lot of my clients like it. And some have recorded the stream as their final as you said.

But if they do the SC Now with a portal...this would indeed be obsolete.

There's just so many things in development and beta right now, it's hard to keep up! Source-Live will soon have video and talkback features as well, so it will make using a phone/skype for back channel unnecessary.
Different tools for different use cases... If you find you have clients in multiple locations that want to listen in on a session and want to give approval, and want to hear it in "studio quality", Source-Live is definitely the right tool.

My friend Charlie Glaize just sent me this YouTube video link with a demo and interview about Source Connect Now.

That is awesome, Bob! I also watched George's test with Rebekah and it was great also.

So it sounds like only one party would need to have access to a Source Connect Now subscription (or whatever they are doing) and the client can just use a Chrome browser and connect however they want with a mic. That would make Source Live unneeded I guess. And being able to have multiple people on the line at once. Wow!

This will certainly put a dent in ISDN's armor. If only it would do restore and replace too. But maybe I am asking for the world here. This is already pretty amazing!

I haven't. I just assumed the studios that had the pro version could do it. Or that it did it for them in the background.
