Uh..wish I had a more clever topic name, but...
Real new to an Android tablet (heck, any tablet) and wondering how to do on-the-fly notes during a directed session..when the copy is in the body of email. When it's a document or F I think I can maybe figure it out, but when it's email not sure what a (if any) I might get to allow me to do stylus markups fast..no time for messing around during these sessions--
I know Doug has mentioned using a marker on acetate--but my tablet is only 8" and I guess I'd need a pretty fine point marker, though that may be fine. Also, if I'm already using a clear screen protector, I'm guessing I put the acetate over that? With tape? or..uh, nails, screws, lag bolts?? I can see the advantages over paper, but only if I can figure out the notation aspect..help would be welcome. Thanks! |

Bill...
I assume you're using Gmail?
Most email programs won't allow you to edit the contents of a received message. Doing so would allow you to change or forge the intent of the original message, allowing you to put words in someone's mouth, as it were.
The trick is to highlight and copy the relevant portion of the text, then open your word processing or document management a of choice (Evernote, Docs to Go, etc), and paste it into a new doc, where you can edit to your heart's content
Once you get used to it, it's pretty quick and easy. _________________ Don Brookshire

Would the same problem not exit on a desktop OS? How would you handle it there, Bill?
I found this "If This Then That" recipe and it works brilliantly:
https://ifttt.com/recipes/73609-if-labeled-drive-in-gmail-then-save-to-google-drive
Any email you label "drive" in Gmail is added to your Drive and is ready to edit and do with what you will. Don't know what IFTTT is? Get ready to have your mind blown. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

You can also click Forward on the email and edit in the new screen and then just not forward it when you're done.
Admittedly moving it to your word processor sounds like the best though.

Thanks all! George, the method you show involves downloading another a that access G-Mail files (unless I'm misunderstanding) ? I don't think I love that idea a lot, but thanks for finding it .
In every case except the Adobe reader, it seems tricky to find the editing tool bar..and by the time I do, something tells me the session is over . The F lets me do a stylus markup on the fly--the others all involve actual editing, cutting/pasting..is that right? I think Lee's screen, all jokes aside. might be the quickest way around this..Yes,I remember that Doug spoke of this low-tech method also.. So Doug..what kind of overlay, what sort of fine point markers..
Oh, and Lee.. I'm old enough to remember those plastic screens..you maybe also, right? Back then, the static eletricity would make my hair stand on end. Now, not an issue really. |

It's as simple as using a Dry-Erase marker.
It works perfectly well with no overlay whatsoever, but since I've got a semi-permanent screen protector on my iPad anyway, that's how I've always used it.
Obviously, since the Dry-Erase markings don't move when the script does, this is a much better solution for short-form stuff.
For longer scripts, I use the Pages, Goodreader or iAnnotate a s, and make notes/changes on the script with a stylus. _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

What Bruce said is what immediately came to my mind. Once it's in an email that's ready to sent to someone else...you can edit all you want.
Or...as was also suggested..simply copy and past it into something as simple as notepad (on the PC). Then you can easily make the font bigger, etc. _________________ "I reserve the right to be completely wrong." |

Thanks Clutter, PC would be no problem--it's this tablet thing that's the trick. Actually if I can't find a way to do it that's as fast as grabbing a pencil and marking up a piece of paper, I may... well, grab a pencil and paper. |
