I'm a huge fan of the Senheiser MHK-415T. Done lots and lots of stuff with it over several years.
Today, an old radio friend who's getting rid of his VO related gear, offered me an almost brand new 416 for half the new price.
I'm liking it! Where the 415 has that "warmth" and a little less top end and "air"….the 416 just sounds amazing!
I had one engineer from a certain Orlando studio say that he wished I had the 416 vs the 415. I kind of get it now.
Now, which mic to take on the road? The NTG-3? Has that top end with a tiny bit of "tubby-ness"….or the 415?
Hmmmm. (nice problem to have…..) _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

the bottom line is, those of us who hang out in the gear section are a bad influence, but.....if you got a near new 416 for half the price, then IMO it was a smart buy.
There IS a difference in the 415 vs. the 416, though slight. Both have their merits and 99% of the lemming public would never know the difference. But if some studio engineers voice a preference for the 416 then that alone would make your purchase well worth it. |

I've done both dry vo and full produced stuff with it today.
I can say that that mic slices thru the music and fx. No EQ….just a little bit of 4:1 compression in Po-Too's.
I NEVER work with headphones on….other than "one ear" to hear the producer. This evening though, I was having lots of fun getting about 3" from the mic and "playing Hal Douglas". Fun! _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

do you cut any low end with the 416? (like around 80hz)
I find that I usually have to (or think I do anyway) |

Yup. Playing with the filter a bit. 70hz…down to 50…just for fun. I'm sure I'll end up at 80 or so. (like my voice goes down to 50hz…..dream on) _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.
