Rats... I just bought some new monitors... but that is an incredible price for the BX5... and they're pretty damn good as well.... I was using the BX5a before one of them went whizz-bang-ooh-nasty and I bought a pair of KRKs. The timing sucks for me, but if anyone needs a nice pair of 5"monis... these are just peachy!

I replaced a few months ago the pair of M-Audio BX5s I bought almost exactly 10 years ago. The BX5s are powered speakers and, as I learned after they gave out, M-Audio knew about the less-than quality capacitors inside them (and other models) and didn't bother saying anything.

One guy – with an electronics background – posted photos of his disassembled speakers and the badly leaking capacitors and said he also found the caps to have been too low a value for their application.

My replacement speakers are JBL.
