So I'm away from my studio for a bit this evening (it does happen that I leave the house once or twice now and again) and I get a "private invitation" from one of everybody's favorite p2p sites (the less annoying one, in my opinion).

Absolutely mahvelous, I feel validated now, etc.

Problem is, I'd like to be able to send a quick note saying, thanks, I'll be back in my studio this evening and will send along an audition, have a nice night, thank you, but I can't, because of the high-tech computerific doodadery that might tell you which candy bar has the golden ticket, but won't let you send a simple damned message to the client without a dollar amount and an audio file.

This is aggravating.

Communication, in the communication industry, is prohibited.

Alright, carry on now.

A "Thanks, I'll send you a demo later" email isn't entirely necessary, unless the deadline will expire before you can do it. However, this P2P doesn't provide any mechanism to politely decline a private invitation other than, of course, replying with a higher price quote (assuming that's the reason for declining) and a note explaining your decision not to participate. And even then, you have to attach some sort of demo.

It's interesting that you'd say this site is the "less annoying one" in light of their no-contact policy. The difference in that very policy is one reason I prefer the 'other' site.

Once in a while, I don't notice key bits of things until I need them, and they aren't there. I wasn't aware I *couldn't* respond to an actual invitation that way, because I'd never needed to in the past.

I'm trying to work a little differently, be a little more responsive and friendly - this is part of my personal journey of being less of a robot and more human. Last evening looked like a good opportunity for growth.

A day or two ago, I got a private invitation on Voices.com for a job I had already submitted a demo for (although the invitation may have been sent before I had submitted). And I didn't even get a "Thumb" icon (or a Padlock).

Well, the good news is that I do see a Thumb Up on that one from last evening.

Now, there are a couple things that the site might be telling me, in my experience:

1. "Client likes your read, grasshopper"

or

2. "This is what you can sit and spin on, because ain't nothing ever gonna come of it."

Bruce, I'm with you. It seems like every stinkin' private invite I get via V123 is for a $100 job. Sigh. I know I should probably send some polite thank you and decline, but honestly? I just deep-six it.

How, errr, whatchacallit, synchronious!

I am off visiting family for the entire weekend and didn't take any recording gear with me. (yes, I know. I'm asking for it! But it's been such a slow couple of weeks, I figured that poking Murrphy's Law with a stick was the only way to get the work ball rolling again)

And of course, I just received a private note from someone on that OTHER major P2P site today. Since this site encourages communication between clients and talent, it was a direct email. The (potential) client was telling me that they had posted a new call for invites and they wanted to have an audition from me to play for their client. Monday morning is fine (phew!) so all's well except... he DIDN'T give me a private invite and the Dumbcast(TM) system didn't send me an invite as part of the cattle call. If it ain't one thing it's another.
