|

Forced to relocate and squeeze my entire recording space into a 7x7 corner, I managed to shoehorn the smallest Whisper Room available into that space. I had to install it without a ceiling and floor due to height issues, so the ceiling was custom built two layers of 404 Soundboard
The control room is literally a step away from the booth entrance.
I honestly don't notice the tight space. Scripts are read from wall mounted iPad, and session stopped and started with the Twisted Wave remote a
Kudos to Chuck Davis for all the help and advice

You get a cup holder?! Jeesh!
It all looks rather nice. I envy anyone who didn't wind up with "kelly green" metrocut foam like I did. _________________ Finally, Ford stops starting to say things and starts. |

Are you kidding? Seven by seven is vast. My space is half vast. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Half vast.
But seriously, Lee---LK, that is, is there some ventilation in there, or was that just not possible? It's a great setup..You're in a basement, right? Walkout or underground? Does the WhisperRoom (single, double wall?) cut most ambient for you? Did any other steps need to be taken outside the booth? |

Looks good Lee! Boy, does that mic stand setup look familiar. The cup holder is nice, but I've found things like Gatorade bottles are too big. It's mostly a mouse platform and a place to keep a pen and post-it's. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

At the end of the day, this entire setup including booth, cost to transport, mic stands, lighting, panels, mic, cheapie 80's floor corpeting, (excluding iPad). came in at less than $2K..well under ..
A Focusrite 6i6 works very nicely with two independent headphone outputs and two xlr mic inputs.. I find the Scarlett MixControl software very useful
No ventilation.. this is the cheapie booth without that feature..Single walled. I crack the door when it gets stuffy.. My plan was never to use this for long form anyway..sitting in this 3.5 x 2.5 coffin is really not practical..the long form gets accomplished at the desk..
Underground basement with no treatment outside the booth other than the "control room"/desk area with about 65 sq ft of Auralex surrounding and above, and packing blankets grommetted and hung to separate the cubby hole from the rest of the basement..
In the booth, I'm managing 30 dbc with construction happening at street level and HVAC running.. at the desk, about 35dbc.. the Shure SM7b at the desk seems help knock those numbers down..
The point of all of this, is.. I came from a wide open 10x14 room and thought this new space would never work, squeezing a booth and a desk into a 7x7 space that is not too far from HVAC and outdoor construction, landscaping, etc.. on a regular basis.. With some shopping on Craigslist for the booth and some shrewd negotiating, the whole thing is doable, and came in way under budget.. So far I've done two gigs in the last few days with the client patched in and no complaints.. with a sidewalk and sewer tearup going in at street level..
The next move is to put a digital keyboard set up from times when I need to dabble in production.. its tight, but totally doable.. _________________ Lee Kanne
