The initials stand for Interactive Voice Response - you know, when the message says for sales press 1 (and then you get another message), etc. _________________ Elaine

Quote: | Short for interactive voice response, a telephony technology in which someone uses a touch-tone telephone to interact with a database to acquire information from or enter data into the database. IVR technology does not require human interaction over the telephone as the user's interaction with the database is predetermined by what the IVR system will allow the user access to. For example, banks and credit card companies use IVR systems so that their customers can receive up-to-date account information instantly and easily without having to speak directly to a person. IVR technology is also used to gather information, as in the case of telephone surveys in which the user is prompted to answer questions by pushing the numbers on a touch-tone telephone.

IVR--when you call an airline and are prompted to "speak or say your destination" and you say Boston and the auto attendant says "Was that Austin?" _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

Yep.
You can avoid all that crap by just saying "AGENT" most of the time. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

Did I hear my name? Oh - too late - you have the answer already.
I just had an IVR session with a client from about two years ago whose client added a module to their system and needed more prompts. I get such a kick out of the director's explanation about just how "sorry" I need to be when recording the response to the third time someone incorrectly enters their phone number or Zip code or agent ID. She know exactly how sorry it is!
We usually end up with lots of great out takes and much laughter.
Laughing is good. _________________ Playing for a living...

"Sorry" is right.
Some times I just want to say "Listen, stupid--" _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

Jeeze, I've always wondered who it is that I am yelling at when I get a list of choices to choose from - - and not a danged one of them has the slightest relevance to my problem. "Whaddya mean send ya an email detailing my problem? My internet service is down, it ain't workin', I ain't got no service, you are my internet provider and that's why I'm callin' you - BOZO!" |

I'm sorry.
I didn't understand your request. "BOZO" is not an option.

I love endless loops.
"…to be connected to a live person, enter zero followed by the pound sign."

"I did not understand that selection please enter your selection now."

"I did not understand that selection please enter your selection now."

"I did not understand that selection please enter your selection now."
...hangs up after a string of explicatives. |
