Sometimes I ruffle some feathers, but I've always been compared to the kid at the end of "The Emperor's New Clothes," who doesn't buy the spin and speaks his mind. So, with that, I must ask (somebody has to):

Why does it seem that all of the companies in India that produce media requiring it place so little value on voice-over when it is the voice-over that carries the majority of – if not the entire – message?

To the visual purists: Yes... there's "a picture is worth a thousand words," that cute little colloquialism which is nothing more than that. And I suppose a message can be conveyed in pictorial form... but it will require an awful lot of pictures to replace all the words.

Ruffle away, Mike... ruffle away.

Here's some interesting numbers. I was recently approached by an Indian production house about voicing their videos. Standard web-explainer type against an animation. I did my due diligence and checked their site. They were quite up-front with pricing, and lists "standard package for $2,495, premium package for $3,495". These are for 90 second video.

I replied to the company, and they responded that they pay $50~$60 for a 90 second VO. (Roughly 2% of the retail price.)

I politely declined.

Bish that just begs to ask the question why they don't pay more for the narration. Just for ruffles, send em the question and see what they say.

I agreed. $60 per video was fine. Minimum order 13. They've gone very quiet.

Mike, you're not ruffling any feathers here. Instead, you're preaching to the choir. Mind you, the rabble could use some rousing. ...that's it, I'm all outta metaphors to mix. Where'd I put that blender?
