Has anyone been required to supply a VAT number to a client\potential client in Spain? Obviously, I don't have one, but I am being asked to supply one. I imagine it is not a fast process.

VAT is a European community thing and as you are a non-European contractor, NOT registered for VAT nor eligible for VAT you cannot supply one. If you want to save time, use mine. GB 813 6171 48. If their clueless admin staff want to faff about about, let 'em.

My guess is that you've received a standard "VO registration form" to complete and when they see you're from the US they will know that VAT is not applicable.

Thanks, fellas! Philip, I really appreciate it. I had dealt with this particular source before and noted that I had done work for a Spanish producer previously that did not ask me for a VAT number, but this apparently is not getting through. Your help is greatly appreciated!

I love this place. Thanks Philip for the information for which I was absolutely clueless about.
