Just curious what the majority of you are using as a soundproofing for your studio doors?? Is a Vinyl Clad Jamb the most effective way to block out all sounds, or is there a cheaper way to accomplish this?? Thanks everyone!

You could spend thousands of dollars on studio doors like these:

You can install special seals like these http://acousticalsolutions.com/acoustical-doors2?gclid=CL_5hbzrmcECFaZj7AodTjwAuQ
or these http://www.tmsoundproofing.com/door-soundproofing.html.

My doors are 1 3/4" solid wood on heavy duty ball bearing hinges with premium weatherstripping like in that last link, and I have them isolated from the wall framing with acoustic putty all the way around, and I have panels of 5/8" thick sheetrock Green Glued to them, and they are still the weakest link in my soundproofing. Fortunately, what I can hear faintly through the doors is not going to be picked up by the mic. Otherwise, I'd be considering building a door-size window plug for extra soundproofing.

I use a full length, fake fur pimp coat and pray no one drives down my street.

i have a 1 3/4" solid oak door w/weather stripping and it works just fine.

however - i have my eye on a 1920's safe door in a ramshackle train depot south of town. i might go all "monk" on this thing.

oh, i definitely want the frame! between the two we're looking at somewhere in the neighborhood of 800 pounds. the floors of the building are rotted - so i would have to pull the door, frame & part of the wall out with a tractor then get a backhoe to lift it onto the trailer. no plan on how to get it in the house!

still trying to figure out who owns it.

All "Monk" on this thing.. Smile

Hell ya.

I used a fire door, it was a free donation and included the frame, but I built my own frame with a couple layers of added mass.

It works pretty well until the dogs come tear-ass down the stairs. Then I have to pause.

Depending on your situation, a good solid exterior door could do the trick, pre-hung with threshold and gasket. Then go from there.
