I was reading a P2P thread (subsequently locked) while in the toilet because that's where such discussions should be read.

While reading it but before I fell asleep there was a wonderful quote that one of our own likely stole from someone richer and sexier but he gets the credit with me cause I ain't not heard it afore.

"Success in life is about being the Puppeteer NOT the puppet."

At one point we used to regular-like update our masthead's subtitle and I reckon that there'd be a good new one.

The puppet isn't the problem.

Were you "in" the toilet... or "on" the toilet? Either way, I have this image now taking up space in my memory banks.

There's also the troubling suggestion in the post that he fell asleep while on the toilet. Or worse - while in the toilet!

Sometimes it's the quietest place in the house, you know.

Maybe he's got a really big toilet. A walk-in toilet.

Toilet refers to the room as well as the fixture, and if you follow the word's etymology you'll find it had many different meanings. It started as the name of a cloth that a lady wore around her shoulders to protect her clothing from her makeup application. It then became the name of the place in a room where a lady did her make up ("toilet water" was and still is a term for a milder scented perfume that women wear). Eventually it applied to a whole room where ladies prepared themselves to meet the world, and finally it came to the meanings it has today. I guess it sounded better in the French, "twah-LAY"

Oh, and commode was, and still is, a wooden chest of drawers.

So does that lead us to "Twi-tear"? I also sounds like toilet talk....

You mean to tell me that eau de toilette isn't actually water from inside the toilet and that trying to save money by sprinkling ...the... wrong... oh dear.

If Peter had said he was reading while in the WC... it all would have made sense.
