Hi all,

I wanted to change my microphone to the Shure SM7b mic but needed an interface with more gain (previously was using the Scarlett 2i2). I got the Apogee Duet which sounds great with the Shure SM7B except this minor hum. This hum is not present when I pair the Shure SM7b with the Scarlett 2i2 (although it doesn't have the oomph that the Apogee has and more hiss).

Here's a link to the noise:

Sweetwater has offered to replace the Apogee but I read that this is common among the Apogee Duet. I was wondering if anyone else had this issue with the Duet?

I can't hear the noise you are describing when I play the link.

Then I captured the link and put it into my editor. Total noise measured -66 dBfs which isn't all that shabby. There is a bit of a "whilstle sound" at about 3400 khz but it is down -96 dBfs

The bulk of the energy in the sample you posted is down below 100 hz.

Maybe someone else has better ears than mine and can give you some guidance on how much better you can hope to do.

Did not listen to your sample...but if you want to boost your SM7B and still use the micpres that you have now, here is a suggestion.

The Triton Audio FetHead will give you additional 20 dB of clean gain.
