I've always been intrigued by this mic. Stupid question. What makes it so much better than any of the hundreds of mics in the $500 or less range?

I can't answer that, but being priced at $299 certainly helps. Mr. Whittman is a strong proponent for this mic at this price range, and he's the guy who'd know.
I should also mention, free shipping, so......yeah.

As for the rest of you.... It's a fine mic, tho there have been reports of quality issues occasionally. It will not, however, get you more work or make your poo smell like roses. For those problems, I recommend the following :
1. Work harder (and smarter).
2. A steady diet of roses.
And NOBODY ever beat me up on a playground more than once.
