Yeah.. Im aware one is phantom power and one isn't. I was more referring to the sonic characteristics.. I take it then that the 416t and 416 are sonically identical…
If the sonic differences between the 415 and 416 are subtle, (and I'm assuming they are) then it doesn't sound like it's anything a little EQ can't make happen . as far as a matchup
I would also guess that if one is the market for a used 416, they likelihood of getting ripped off with a knock - off are minimal with a 415 or a 416 t.. _________________ Lee Kanne

Lee,
I agree with your conclusions on all fronts. I have both a 415T and a 416P48. Subtle differences in sound. And there isn't much of a market for T-powered devices so you're much less likely to find someone trying run a scam. _________________ Be well,

I find the two to be noticeably different--same neighborhood, same family--- when A/B-ed side by side---- but with a little EQ can be made to sound very close.
I wanted a backup that could be used interchangeably with my 416 P48 without EQing and ended up getting a 416T. To my ear they sound almost identical. |

One caveat...
Never hook up a T-powered mic to straight phantom power without the proper step-down adapter.
And never hook up a phantom powered mic to a T-powered circuit.
Because of how they each are wired, either situation could be disastrous.

So Bob, if I may.. is your 415 a backup/travel or is it pressed into commission for projects other than what the 416 is used for? if so, what type of work? _________________ Lee Kanne

Lee,
While I originally purchased the 415 to use as my travel microphone, I like the way it sounds so much that it is now my full time in studio mic and my 416 is my travel mic. _________________ Be well,
