....just wondering. I picked one up and it sounds okay but I'm thinking of sending it to Senn/Neumann for a once over......I tried calling Sennheiser but got banished to the Friday afternoon voicemail purgatory... |

The 415 does have a different sound than the 416 out of the box not just your recording. You could email sennheiser and send the file to see what they say. Yours doesn't seem to sound off to my ears. |

I hadn't thought about e-mailing them a file. I guess it wouldn't hurt to let them give it the once over just so I know for sure..... |

Over the years I've defaulted to contacting manufacturers first with equipment related issues since they are usually the most knowledgeable and I....am not Something I picked up from my days in consumer electronics. |

I found a post of Chuck Davis' where he mentions getting his 415 serviced so I guess that pretty much answers the question |

Okay so the 415 is back from Sennheiser with a clean bill of health.....sounds great but still not identical to the 416....noticeably more low end....if you roll off about 6db at 80 hz they start sounding much more similar.... |

I'm curious as to what the difference is between the 416 and the 416 T.. would the use of phantom power add warmth? as it seems to do with the 415? if not, then the 416 T and 416 should be identical.. _________________ Lee Kanne

The 416 runs 48v phantom power.
The T Models run old school (Tonader) 12v power. Common on much older consoles, and older recorders like Nagra, for instance. A transformer can be used to adapt T-power mics to use with phantom power.
That's it.
The differences between the 415 and 416 are subtle... Capsules are nearly identical, but not... Circuitry was slightly updated for the 416... And the interference baffles in the bodies are slightly different. The result is a pronounced spike in highs on the 416, along with a little more lower end rolloff. _________________ Don Brookshire
